Subject: Footpath at The Length, St Nicholas-at-Wade

Dear Mr. Clayson,
Further to our telephone conversation I would be grateful if you could let it be known that the above proposal is contrary to the St. Nicholas Conservation Area Appraisal adopted by TDC Members on 14th February 2001 - as I have told Mr. Ross.

In my role as Conservation Architect I have also stated my objections to Alan Ross with regard to the proposals, that they are damaging to the special character of the Conservation Area.
He told me that the footpath was the overwhelming wish of the villagers.
I understand that Graham Steaggles, Historic Areas Advisor to English Heritage, has written to Mr. Ross on two occasions stating English Heritage's objection.
I will send you copies of e-mails to Alan Ross from Doug Brown and Steve Albon under separate cover.
yours,
Nick Dermott

Good Afternoon Alan.

The matter of the new section of a footpath to be installed adjacent to the Listed buildings has been passed to me to deal with. You will recall the e-mail from MR Brown on the 22nd April which advised that Listed Building Consent is required because of the effect the pathway has on the buildings. I understand work is commencing anyway and my records do
not show any application being received.

Under the circumstances, I must insist you cease work immediately.
Should you continue legal proceedings may well be instigated for detrimental works affecting the listed buildings.
I would be obliged if you would respond as a matter of urgency.
Steve Albon.

I refer to your fax of 29th March and apologise for the delay in my reply.
Having viewed the sections I consider that listed building consent is required for both the pavement abuttment and the basement vents.
My conservation officer and I have concerns that they will have a detrimental impact, particularly the basement vents.
Sorry again for the delay.

Doug Brown
Development Control Manager.
