Thanet Nature Conservation Umbrella Group

OBJECTIVES

Founded: January 1998

Is a co-ordinating body for local groups concerned for the natural environment and wildlife

It aims to increase awareness and involvement in the preservation of Thanet's flora and fauna and habitats by:

  1. Highlighting activities, events and concerns
  2. Providing information, research, comment, proposals and feedback on conservation matters
  3. Promoting sustainable land use and nature conservation through-out the area.
  4. Helping to identify and protect amenity land and publicise achievements
  5. Informing and monitoring the local planning process
  6. Advising on funding sources and other support for specific projects
  7. Working in partnership with all sectors of the local community including businesses and Thanet District and Parish Councils.
  8. Working towards producing a Nature Conservation Strategy in relation to the Kent Biodiversity Plan

It is represented on the Thanet Local Agenda 21 Steering Group 'Towards a Sustainable Thanet'
