MINUTES

MEETING OF THANET DISTRICT CPRE

11 April 2003

Dunkeld House, Leslie Road, Birchington

1. Members present: Mr Mairs, Chairman; Mr Luck, Mrs Cohen and Dr Quested.

2. Apologies: were received from Mr Bridge, Dr Cohen, Vice-chairman; Dr and Mrs Neden and Mrs Randall.

3. Minutes of the last meeting: Mr Mairs produced minutes for the previous two meetings, and these were accepted as true and accurate records.

4. Matters arising: the final date for the latest set of public representations on the Thanet Local Plan was looming, so Mr Mairs said he would ensure CPRE’s views were known in time. [He has done this.]

Mrs Cohen offered to place CPRE recruitment leaflets in local libraries – Mr Mairs said he hoped to have some from Wye for the next meeting.

Mr Luck mentioned the proposed East Kent Access Road. He said that at the moment it appeared to be just a dualling of the current road that runs parallel to the Manston airport runway, with the stretch from Pfizer still nebulous.

Mr Mairs said he would enquire about the status of land at Cliffsend Farm in light of the fact that a development proposal was thought imminent. [In fact, a proposal for more than 30 dwellings has since appeared, with CPRE objecting.]

Mr Luck asked for the latest on the Foreness Point sewage works saga, and Dr Quested informed him that Thanet Council was still refusing to sell the land for expansion of the plant.

With so few people present, matters were for once tidied up relatively quickly and members melted away into the night. Thanks to Mrs Cohen, as ever, for her hospitality and provisions.

The next meeting will be on Friday 25 July at 8 pm at the same venue.
