VILLAGES
Stage 1.
Build a website for
1. Thanet Villages with general information, and;
2. A sub-web for each village with relevant information for that village.
See the (1) pub’s in each village to see if they will be the voting
stations, to:
1. Check that the person who wants to vote on an issue is registered as an
elector (they will have the list of registered electors)
2. get them to sign the register and give the individual a vote slip.
3. Get a witness/s to watch/do the count and check against the number of
initials on the register.
4. Send the results to X (not me) (2)
5. X, or X's to compile the results from each village and send it to me, AND
check I actually work with it.
Note (1) Due to the demise of shops and post offices the
only other common focal point –Public houses.
P-H’s have distinct advantages:
- They have more room
- Not many publicans would turn away potential customers
- The state of government is a normal topic in pubs
- The counting could be done in the public view
- No cost involved
Note (2) Each stage of the voting should be
- Visibly clear of potential misrepresentation
- Verifiable at a later date
Note (3) Voting
- Minimum period that voting is open. 2 days
Stage 2.
Enlist people with internet access to be local coordinators of information
to:
- Distribute information
- Help formulate suggestions for council attention
a. Village/Parish referendum require 10 signatures before presenting
the document
b. If passed by the majority at Parish/Village level it then goes to
Ward level if the implications affect others.
- Collect signatures of support for item 2.
Stage 3.
Enlist interested professional (or retired professional) people to:
- to act as specialist advisory panels to quantify elements of council
proposals and;
- present their findings to the public with;
a. alternative solutions
b. suggestions on what controls need to be set, and;
c. set revision time limits on the proposed project
- open the discussion to public comments
a. comments 'for' and 'against' should be submitted on a separate papers
- Documents to be presented as:
a. proposal detail
b. advantages and potential consequences
c. reassessment period
d. potential costs involved
- public to vote on final document/s
