Introduction

Who I am is largely irrelevant, what you will be voting for if you choose to elect me is the ability to vote on issues, having said that you have the right to know.

I am 63 years old, spent 47 years in farming and the food industry, 30 years in management, 33 years in the Thanet Villages.

Having spent several years studying the ways of government in various countries I can confirm the mis-use of the word democracy is an illusion perpetuated by parties in order for them to increase/maintain their influence.
Democracy is government by the people, yet the people do not have any input in to governace at any level.
Most countries operate as an oligarchy (government by minority), some define this as 'elective dictatorship' i.e. the public has a choice of who will 'dictate' to them.
The cabinet system is a good example of this, the logic of it is good in that it puts names to areas of responsibility, the failing is they are not responsible to the public who pay for it.

The Scrutiny function is in the hands of the wrong people, it should be a public function to decide whether the council has the right policies, ditto the Standards Committee, the final auditors of councillors and officers should be the public, and as a routine, not every four years.
Again, it is the public that has to pay the bill.
